White Mountain Cake

Ingredients

• 1 pound sugar
• 1 pound flour
• 1 half pound butter
• 6 eggs
• 1 large cup of milk
• 2 teaspoonfuls cream of tartar
• 1 teaspoon of soda
• Juice of one lemon

Method

   Beat yolks and white together first.

   Then the sugar, beat the butter in a separate dish, and then add to the other.

   Take the milk, divide, and put soda in one-half and cream of tartar in the other; just before you put in the oven put both milks together.

   Bake one hour; mix the flour in after the butter.
