Stewed Tomatoes Brown a little thinly-sliced onion in a spoonful of melted butter, add to a quart of peeled and sliced tomatoes, and cook fast about 20 minutes. (Tomatoes should be cooked in aluminum or agate pots, — never in tin.) Season with salt, pepper and sugar, and thicken with either a lump of butter rolled in flour
