Soap Making

Ingredients

• a can of potash
• three pints of cold water
• five pounds of clean fat
• strained through cheese cloth

Method

   Carefully and slowly add a can of potash to three pints of cold water; it will boil and spatter.

   When cool, pour it slowly over five pounds of clean fat that has been melted and strained.

   Stir until mixed and thick as honey.

   Do not stir too long to avoid separation.

   Line a wooden box with wrapping paper, oiling the last one.

   It will harden in a warm place; then cut into cakes.
