Fruit Cake. (Prize Cake.) 12 eggs; 1 pound sugar; 1 pound butter; 1 pound pecans ; 1 pound currants ; 1 pound raisins ; 1 pound dates or figs ; 14 pound citron ; 14 pound lemon and orange peeling: 1 large apple; 1 grated nutmeg; 1 wine glass of brandy ; 1' teaspoon!' ul of cinnamon ; y2 tea- spoonful of cloves; y2 teaspoonful of mace; y2 tea- spoonful of allspice; 1 pound of flour; 2 teaspoonfuls of baking powder; a pinch of salt. Cream together butter and sugar to a paste, adding the well beaten yolks, then all the fruit, spices and — 132 — brandy, flour and baking powder, lastly adding the whites of the eggs, well beaten. Bake two or three hours. MISS MET A DIETZ. Cup Fruit Cake. % cup butter; 2 cups sugar; 1 eup milk; 3 eggs; 3 cups flour; 1 cup nuts; 1 eup raisins; 3 level tea- spoonfuls baking powder. ROSA DECHERT. Devil's Food Cake. PART 1. 1 cup brown sugar ; y2 cup butter ; y2 cup sweet milk ; yolks of 3 eggs ; 2 cups flour ; 1 teaspoon soda.
