Emetic Solution

Ingredients

• one tablespoonful of salt
• in a glass of tepid water
• one teaspoonful of mustard
• one teaspoonful of powdered alum
• a teaspoonful of wine of ipecac
• a dose of castor oil

Method

1. 1

   For children, give one tablespoonful of salt in a glass of tepid water, or one teaspoonful of mustard or powdered alum in tepid water.

2. 2

   A teaspoonful of wine of ipecac followed by warm water can also be used.

3. 3

   Repeat any of these three or four times if necessary.

4. 4

   After the danger is over, give a dose of castor oil to carry off any remnants of the poison that may have lodged in the intestines.
