Have shortening room temperature and put into the mixing bowl with the sugar and one egg. Mix thoroughly and add the second egg. Sift flour, baking powder, salt into the mixture. Add the vanilla and sufficient milk to make a stiff dough. Melt the chocolate with the butter and when cool spread over the cooky dough. Roll up as you would a jelly roll. Place in the ice box until very cold. Cut in rather thin slices and bake on the greased broiler pan at 425 degrees for ten minutes. Damper first notch. Mrs. A. S. Winsor. ICE-BOX COOKIES V2 cup butter 1 egg V2 cup Crisco 2 cups flour V2 cup sugar Cream butter and crisco with the sugar. Add the egg and the flour. Add sugar and blend thoroughly. Sift flour, salt and baking powder into this mixture. Add the raisins and almonds. Grease and flour boiler pan that comes with Universal range, and spread the mixture on it evenly. Pan on third rack up from bottom of oven. Bake at 375 degrees for 40 min- utes. Damper first notch. To remove from the pan, loosen the edges with spatula and then cut into sticks; use cake turner that comes with kitchen set to remove them.
