Troy Molasses Cake

Ingredients

• half a cupful of sugar
• half a cupful of molasses
• a table-spoonful of butter
• an even teaspoonful of soda
• half a cupful of sweet milk
• an egg
• two cupfuls of flour

Method

   Mix together sugar, molasses, and butter.

   Dissolve the soda in sweet milk and add it to the mixture; add the beaten egg, and after mixing all these ingredients thoroughly, add the flour.

   Spread the batter two inches thick in shallow tin pans, and bake in a rather quick oven for twenty to twenty-five minutes.
