Rachel's Dark Cake

Ingredients

• % cupful grated chocolate
• 1 cupful brown sugar
• % cupful milk
• 1 cupful brown sugar
• 1 cupful sweet milk
• % cupful butter
• 2 cupfuls flour
• 2 eggs
• 1 scant teaspoonful soda

Method

   Combine the grated chocolate, brown sugar, and milk and cook together until thick and smooth.

   Set away to cool.

   Cream the butter, add the sugar and beat until light and creamy.

   Add the well beaten egg yolks.

   Sift the flour and soda together and add this mixture alternately with the milk.

   Then stir in the cooled chocolate mixture, fold in the stiffly beaten egg whites and bake as a loaf or in layers in a moderate oven.
