Plain Tomato Sauce

Ingredients

• 2 cups canned tomatoes
• 1 bay leaf
• 3/8 to 1/2 teaspoon salt
• 2 allspice
• 1 teaspoon sugar
• 2 slices onion
• 2 cloves
• 1/4 teaspoon pepper

Method

   Cook the ingredients for 10 minutes.

   Strain through a fine sieve.

   For each cup of liquid, allow 2 tablespoons flour and 2 tablespoons butter.

   Melt the butter, add the flour, and when blended, add the seasoned tomato juice and stir until thickened.

   Place over hot water for 5 or 10 minutes.

   Serve hot with croquettes or meat loaf.
