Orange Short Cake

Ingredients

• two oranges
• one and one-third cups sugar
• two cups flour
• two teaspoons baking powder
• butter about size of egg
• wet with milk and part water

Method

   Slice two oranges thinly and cover with sugar.

   Make a rich biscuit dough with flour, baking powder, salt, and butter, wet with milk and water to make a soft dough.

   Roll in two sheets, spread one with butter, place the other on top, and bake in a quick oven.

   When done, put sweetened oranges between layers and around the cake.
