Old Black Joe Cake Two cups brown sugar, V2 cup lard, 1 cup sour milk, 1 teaspoon baking soda dissolved in % teacup boiling water, 2Y2 to 2% cups flour, pinch salt, ^4 teaspoon vanilla, V2 cup cocoa (sifted with flour), yolk of egg (if you are making icing with white of egg).
