Frosting. — Two cups of granulated sugar, one-half cup boiling water, let boil without stirring until it strings; pour this on the beaten whites of four eggs. Beat with a tablespoon for two minutes. Add one-half teaspoonful of vanilla and one-half teaspoon of powdered citric acid. Spread on layers. Ellen E. Hubbard. Ice Cream Cake. One cup butter, two cups sugar, one cup sweet milk, five whites of eggs, three cups sifted flour, three teaspoons baking powder, one teaspoon vanilla.
