Homemade Soap from Cracklings

Ingredients

• 2 gallons of water
• 3 cans of lye
• 14 pounds of fryings or cracklings

Method

   Pour water into an iron kettle and add lye.

   Let cool for 1 hour.

   Add fryings and boil until grease is dissolved.

   Cool overnight, skim off crust and jelly, then boil for 2 hours.

   Add boiling water until consistency is like honey, then pour into molds.
