Fruit Cake, No. 1

Ingredients

• 1 cup lard
• 4 eggs
• 1 teaspoon cinnamon
• ½ teaspoon each of allspice, cloves and nutmeg
• 1 cup raisins
• 1 cup currants
• 1 cup brown sugar
• 1 cup molasses
• 1 cup butter
• 1 teaspoon soda
• Purity Flour to make stiff batter

Method

   Cream shortening and sugar, add molasses in which soda has been dissolved.

   Next the well-beaten eggs, spices and fruit which has been prepared.

   Mix well and pour into a greased pan.

   Bake in a moderate oven about 2 hours.
