Dried Apple Cake (German)

Ingredients

• Dried apples, 3 cups
• Molasses, 3 cups
• Sugar, 1 cup
• Sour milk, 1 cup
• Flour, 3 cups
• Eggs, 2
• Butter, % cupful
• Stoned raisins, 1 cup
• Soda, 2 teaspoons
• Ground cloves, 1 teaspoon
• Ground cinnamon, 1 teaspoon

Method

   Soak the apples overnight.

   Chop them fine and simmer in the molasses for 2 hours, then let them cool.

   When cold, add all the other ingredients, the eggs being well beaten; stir all thoroughly together and pour into a large tin, and bake in a slow oven.
