Bread and Butter Pudding No. 1

Ingredients

• a deep pudding-dish
• butter the sides and bottom
• thin slices of bread
• sprinkle thickly with sugar
• a little cinnamon
• chopped apple, or any fruit you prefer
• two eggs
• a tablespoonful of sifted flour
• three cupfuls of milk
• a little salt

Method

   Butter the dish and bread slices, layer with sugar, cinnamon, and fruit.

   Beat eggs, add flour, milk, and salt.

   Pour over bread, let stand for one hour, then bake covered for three-quarters of an hour.

   Brown without cover.
