Beef Stew

Ingredients

• 2 lbs. beef (cut into inch cubes)
• Salt and pepper
• 1 turnip
• 4 potatoes (sliced)
• 2 small onions (sliced)
• Water

Method

   Wipe the meat and cut into inch cubes.

   Put bone and poorer portions into cold water and cook slowly.

3. 3

   Brown the best portions in flour in a frying pan.

   Add to kettle with onions, cover with boiling water, and cook slowly for at least 2 hours.

   Remove bone, strain liquid into stew, add vegetables (except potatoes), and cook for 45 minutes.

   Parboil potatoes for 5 minutes, add to stew, and cook for 15 minutes.

   Add seasoning and thickening if needed.
