Apple Dumplings

Ingredients

• 1 c. flour
• 2 tbsp. shortening
• 2 tsp. baking powder
• 14 c water or milk
• 14: tsp. salt
• 4 apples
• H c. sugar

Method

   Mix and sift flour, baking powder, and salt.

   Cut in the shortening with knives, add the liquid, mixing to a soft dough.

   Roll on a well-floured board to 0.75 inch thickness.

   Wipe, pare, and cut apples in halves.

   Cut dough in 4- or 5-inch squares.

   Place half an apple in center of square, sprinkle with sugar and cinnamon.

   Moisten edge of dough; bring the four corners together around the apple.

   Pierce with a fork to allow steam to escape.

   Bake on a greased tin in a moderate oven until soft, about 25 minutes.

    Serve warm with cream or any pudding sauce.
