Place the flour in the sieve and add the baking powder, sift into a mixing bowl and rub in the butter. Add the salt to the egg and beat to a thick cream with a Dover beater in a small bowl with straight sides. To the flour add the apples sliced thin, then the egg and milk. Place in buttered cups. The half-pound bakin, powder cans answer this purpose nicely. Put on the covers and steam one hour and a quarter. Serve with a liquid or a hard sauce. Almost any fruit can be substituted for the apples in this receipt. The same batter makes the best of crusts for meat pies and fruit pudding.
