Treasury Department Whitewash

Ingredients

• one-half bushel of unslacked lime
• a peck of salt
• three pounds ground rice
• one-half pound powdered Spanish whiting
• a pound of clear glue

Method

   Slack the lime with boiling water, keeping it covered.

   Strain it and add the dissolved salt, ground rice paste, and dissolved glue.

   Mix well and let it stand for several days.

   Apply hot with painter's or whitewash brushes.
