The Best Washing Fluid

Ingredients

• 2J^ pounds sal soda
• ^ pound borax
• % pound lime unSlacked
• 2 ounces salts of tartar
• I Ji ounces liquid ammonia
• 4 gallons cold water

Method

   Dissolve the soda and borax in two quarts of hot water.

   Settle and when clear pour it off carefully.

   Pour the solution together with the cold water.

   Keep it in a keg.

   The night before washing, take six tablespoons to four pails warm water; put in clothes, soak overnight; next morning add hot water enough to wash the clothes with good soap suds.

   Boil the clothes for ten minutes, and wash as usual.
