Spice Cake No. 2

Ingredients

• two cupfuls of sugar
• two-thirds of a cupful of butter
• three beaten eggs
• a cupful of sour or buttermilk
• a teaspoonful of soda
• three and one-half cupfuls of flour
• spices to taste

Method

   Mix the sugar and butter, add the eggs, sour milk with dissolved soda, and flour.

   Bake in shallow square tins; when done, cover with the yolk of an egg beaten with powdered sugar and cut in squares to serve.
