Soda Beer

Ingredients

• Three pints strong beer
• one quart molasses
• three and one-half pounds brown sugar
• three ounces tartaric acid
• one-half pint of water
• one and one-half ounces of essence of lemon
• one and one-half ounces of wintergreen
• one and one-half ounces of sassafras

Method

   Simmer the beer, molasses, and brown sugar together, skimming as long as scum rises.

   Dissolve tartaric acid in water, add essences, then bottle, cork, and tie.
