Short Cake, No. 1

Ingredients

• One pint flour
• one-half teaspoon salt
• two teaspoons baking powder
• one-quarter cup butter
• one egg
• one scant cup milk

Method

   Sift flour, salt, and baking powder together four times.

   Rub in butter.

   Beat egg and mix with milk.

   Spread mixture on a biscuit tin and bake in a quick oven.

   Pull apart after cooling five minutes, spread with softened butter, and fill with fruit.
