Savory Stew

Ingredients

• Meat, 1 pound
• Fat from the meat, 2 tablespoons
• Salt, 1 teaspoon
• Any two or more vegetables
• 4 medium potatoes
• 1 cup of barley, rice, or hominy grits

Method

   Cut the meat into small pieces and brown in the fat.

   Add the cereal, seasonings, and 1.5 quarts of water.

   Simmer until the cereal is nearly done, then add the vegetables and continue cooking until tender, adding more water if needed.
