Ingredients

• half an ounce of red, sweet-smelling rose leaves
• one pound of castor sugar
• the juice of one or two lemons
• four drops of cochineal

Method

1. 1

   Collect and dry the rose leaves, pound them to a fine dust, mix with castor sugar, and make a stiff paste with lemon juice.

   Stir over the fire until boiling, then add cochineal and drop the mixture on an oiled dish.

   Let dry in a warm place until the next day.
