Quick Chutney Surprise

Ingredients

• 6 ozs. McDougall’s Self-raising Flour
• 3 ozs. Grated Cheese
• 2 medium-sized Apples
• 1 medium-sized Onion
• 2 ozs. Dates
• 1 dessertspoonful Vinegar
• Pepper and Salt
• 1 teaspoonful Marmite or Bovril

Method

   Make the Short-crust Pastry and use two-thirds of it to line a greased 7-inch flan ring or sandwich tin.

   Cut up dates roughly and place in a saucepan with Marmite or Bovril and vinegar.

   Cook slowly until thick and smooth.

   Grate or chop apples and onion, add to saucepan with cheese and seasoning.

   Mix thoroughly and spread in pastry case.

   Roll out remaining pastry, damp edges, place on top, pressing edges together.

   Trim and decorate.

   Bake for 25 mins. until golden brown.
