Orange Cake

Ingredients

• one cupful of butter with the salt washed out
• two cupfuls of powdered sugar
• three and one-fourth cupfuls of flour
• one cupful of sweet milk
• five eggs (leaving out the whites of three)
• the rind of two large oranges

Method

   Grate the rind of two large oranges into the mixture with part of the juice.

   Strain the remainder of the juice into one pound of powdered sugar.

   Beat the whites of three eggs to a stiff froth, and stir into the sugar and orange juice.

   Bake the cakes in jelly-pans, and place the icing between.
