Oatmeal Hermits

Ingredients

• 2 cups oatmeal
• 1 cup melted shortening
• 3^ cup English walnuts
• 2 well beaten eggs
• 1 cup seeded raisins
• 1 teaspoon cinnamon
• 1 cup white sugar
• 1 teaspoon nutmeg
• 1 tablespoon soda, dissolved in 2 cups flour
• 6 tablespoons sweet milk

Method

   Put oatmeal, nuts, and raisins through coarse cutter of meat chopper.

   Mix sugar, shortening, and eggs.

   Add soda, milk, flour, and spices.

   Stir in chopped materials.

   Drop from a dessert spoon wet in milk onto tin sheets, having drops about three inches apart.

   Bake in moderately hot oven.

   Makes about three dozen.
