Navy Apple Shortcake

Ingredients

• as many good cooking apples as will fit tightly in dish
• cover thickly with sugar (about a coffee cupful)
• three tablespoonfuls of bojli^ wat?r
• make a rich shorttake dough

Method

   Butter thickly an oblong granite baking dish.

   Halve and core the apples, cover with sugar, nutmeg, and bojli water.

3. 3

   Roll and cover the apples with shortcake dough; bake in a quick oven for half an hour.

4. 4

   Loosen the edges of the crust, turn upside down on a hot platter, cut into squares, and serve at once.
