MARBLE CAKE. Light part : White sugar one and a half cups, butter half cup, sweet milk half a cup, soda half a teaspoonful, cream of tartar one teaspoon- ful, whites of four eggs, flour two and a half cups ; beat the eggs with the sugar, leaving the butter to soften by the fire ; then stir it in ; put your soda and cream of tartar into the milk, stirring up and mixing7 all together ; then sift and stir in the flour.
