Javelle Water for Bleaching Clothes

Ingredients

• Half pound washing soda
• One pint boiling water
• Quarter pound chloride of lime
• One quart cold water

Method

   Dissolve the soda in the boiling water.

   Let it cool.

   Dissolve the chloride of lime in cold water; when settled, pour off the clear liquid; add this to the liquid soda.

   Bottle, cork well, label and store in a dark place, as it loses its strength if exposed to air and light.

   This bleach removes colour and must only be used for white clothes.
