Hair, to wash

Ingredients

• one dozen soap-nuts (reta)
• a pint of hot water
• one tablespoonful of poppy seeds (Icish-kush)
• half a pint of hot water

Method

   Bruise soap-nuts and steep in hot water for an hour.

   Pound poppy seeds and steep in hot water.

3. 3

   Strain the soap-nut water into a basin, using pressure to extract all the juice.

4. 4

   Strain the liquor from the poppy seeds into a separate basin.

5. 5

   Wash hair thoroughly with soap-nut water, rinsing well before using poppy-seed milk, which should be lightly rubbed on and rinsed out.
