Hair Curling Fluid

Ingredients

• a pound and a half of good white soap
• six ounces of potash
• three pints of alcohol
• two pounds of soap
• eight ounces of potash
• a pint and a half each of water
• twenty drops of essence of amber

Method

   Grate the soap and mix with potash and alcohol in a jar placed in a hot water bath, stirring until melted.

   Leave to settle, then pour off the clear liquor and perfume with essence of violets.

   For the second fluid, dissolve soap and potash in water, then add essence of amber when cold and clear.

The other excellent curling fluid is made by dissolving in the same manner, two pounds of soap, eight ounces of potash in a pint and a half each of water, adding to the liquor, when cold and clear, twenty drops of essence of amber
