Three-fourths of a pound of butter, 2 pounds of sugar, 2 pounds of flour, 6 eggs, i pint of milk, i nutmeg, i wineglass of brandy, i teaspoon of soda dissolved in 2 teaspoons of vine- gar, I pound of currants, i pound of raisins. Mix and bake in a large mould. Cocoanut Cake. One and ne-half cups of sugar, two-thirds of a cup of butter, 2}i cups of flour, one-third of a cup of milk, whites of 4 eggs, CAKES. 93 I teaspoon of baking powder, i teaspoon of Sauer's vanilla. Bake in layers and ice with cocoanut icing. Cocoanut Icing. — Boil i cup of white sugar and ^ of a cup of water, with ^ teaspoon of vinegar in it, until it ropes.
