Chocolate Cake (Iowa)

Ingredients

• 2 cups sugar (whites and yellows)
• 1 cup butter
• 2T/2 cups flour
• 1 cup sour cream
• y2 cup melted chocolate
• T4 lb. walnut meats or 1 cup
• 1 tsp. baking powder
• 1 tsp. soda
• 5 eggs beaten separately

Method

   Cream butter and sugar, add yolks of eggs well beaten, sour cream, walnut meats dredged with flour, flour to which B.

   P. has been added, vanilla and chocolate.

   Beat well, stir in soda which has been dissolved in a small quantity of warm water.

   Fold in stiffly beaten whites of eggs.

   Bake 25 minutes.

   This makes a three-layer cake.
