Brown and White Cake

Ingredients

• % cup butter
• 1% cups sugar
• 4 eggs separated
• 2 cups pastry flour
• 2 teaspoons baking powder
• 1 teaspoon cinnamon
• 1 teaspoon cloves
• 1 teaspoon nutmeg
• 1 teaspoon mace
• 1^/2 tablespoons cocoa
• Va cup milk

Method

   Cream butter and sugar, add egg yolks and beat well.

   Sift flour and baking powder and add to sugar and butter alternately with the milk.

   Beat the egg whites until stiff and add.

   Divide this mixture into two equal portions and to the one part add the spices and cocoa.

   Into a well-greased loaf cake pan (8x8) drop spoonfuls of each mixture.

   Bake in a moderate (350° F.) oven 30 minutes.
