Bread and Butter Pickles

Ingredients

• 7’ pounds cucumbers (12 medium)
• 5 small onions
• 2 cups sugar
• 1 tablespoon whole celery seed
• 1 tablespoon whole white mustard seed
• 1 tablespoon whole black pepper
• 1 teaspoon salt
• ground ginger
• 2 cups vinegar
• ground turmeric

Method

   Cut cucumbers and onions into 4-inch slices and soak in salt for 1 hour.

   Rinse and drain.

   Boil syrup ingredients, add cucumbers and onions, and boil for 10 minutes.

   Seal in sterilized jars.
