HOW TO COOK YOUR FOOD TO THE
BEST ADVANTAGE
If you are used to cooking, you will know already how to use up
every scrap of food, but if you are a young married woman or an
elder sister and have not had so much practice in buying and house-
keeping, you may be glad of a few hints on how to make the best of
the food you buy.
ROASTING AND BAKING
Roasting (which is really baking) is a good way to cook the better
joints of meat when you are cooking a large piece and want some
cold meat over for future meals. Baking in oven ware which can
be bought at 6d. a piece is very suitable for meat, fish, and root
vegetables. By serving the food in this ware you save washing up.
STEAMING AND STEWING
MEAT. Steaming and stewing are more economical ways of cooking
